The Great (and gruelling) Ski Race
Question: What can give you blistered feet, painfully hard glutes of steel, and shoulders as tight as spring coiled rubber bands?
Answer: The Great Ski Race
Don't know what I was thinking but decided at the last minute to compete in The Great Ski Race this past Sunday. Word to the wise, think twice before doing this "off the couch." Actually, all in all it was an amazing day with perfect weather and absolute fun to be had by all. The 30km (18.43 mile) course gaines about 1550 feet and runs from Tahoe City to Truckee. It's always a blast. The funnest part is zooming down the final hill and skiing directly into the parking lot of the Cottonwood restaurant. Waiting for the finishers is free beer, food, live music and a majorly fun party. First thing I did was ski to the beer garden and woof down a heaping portion of chili. So much fun!! Then it was a trip (pun intended) watching all the other finishers zoom across the finish line falling and tumbling at the bottom of the hill. My favorite finishers were the gnarly skate skier ladies who were donned in customs of the complete Wizard of Oz cast. The most painful to watch was the guy who skied the entire race in a speedo. Yikes, that takes balls. Click on the link above and see if you can find their pictures on the photographers link. It's pretty funny.

Nice work girl!
Found Speedo Guy, btw. Wow. Looks, uh, well... uncomfortable. Think he maybe ended up with a bit of a "chafe" issue on those bare inner thighs?
